Evan Howard, Executive Director for the St. Jude Children's Hospital student organization at OU explains the benefits of becoming involved with her chosen organization.
"Becoming a member of any organization on campus is a great way to get involved and really find your niche at school. Joining the St. Jude organization really helped me get adjusted here," Howard said.
The OU student St. Jude program hosts philanthropy events throughout the entire school year to raise awareness among students and members in the community. The organization is always looking for students who are eager to help and get involved with the St. Jude student program.
According to Howard, the group is currently getting ready for a 5K that will take place at the end of March, benefiting the patients of St. Jude. Rather than paying an entrance fee, the participants of the 5K will sign letters that will be mailed out asking for donations that go toward the hospital and patients.
Howard claims that getting involved with the St. Jude student program especially helped her find her home within OU because she was a transfer student as a Sophomore.
"Being a new student is always hard, regardless if you are nine or nineteen," said Howard. "However, with the help of St. Jude, I was able to make friends and become part of such a great cause. St. Jude will always remain close to my heart."
The St. Jude student organization is very excited about the upcoming 5K and is hoping to get as many OU students to participate as possible. Participating in the event is a great way to meet other students while supporting a great cause. The 5K will be held Wednesday March 30 at 8 p.m. For any questions about the event or getting involved with the OU St. Jude program visit the OU St. Jude facebook page or contact Evan Howard at evannycole@yahoo.com
